Day 7: Snaefellsnes - West Iceland

Drive from Akureyri in the direction of Snaefellsnes. This is quite a long drive.
We stopped at Vidimyri, a small church built in the Icelandic turf house style we looked at from the outside. You can enter the church for a symbolic fee.
We reached the Snaefellsnes area and stopped at the fishing village, Stykkisholmur – a nice village with boats, but without much to see.
We continued to our Hotel, The Old Post Office in Grundarfjordur with shared bathroom and toilet but only two rooms were taken. This is a charming place with a small veranda facing the sea.
After getting organized quickly, we went on a trip to the surrounding fishing villages of Hellissandur, Rif and Olafsvik.
There is an entrance to Ondverdames from the main road. You'll find spectacular cliffs, a terrific view and a lighthouse just like in the movies, except that it's closed to the public. There is a dirt road to the lighthouse, passable by all vehicles.
